Privacy Policy

Effective October 6, 2026 · Applies to the Encodia app for Mac and to encodia.app

Encodia converts your videos on your Mac. It doesn't collect personal data, doesn't track you, and never sends your videos to us.

At a glance

  • Your videos are converted on your Mac. They never pass through our servers; we don't have any for that.
  • Encodia has no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.
  • Your settings, series records and conversion history stay on your Mac.
  • Server passwords are stored in your Mac's Keychain, protected by macOS.
  • Videos are only uploaded to servers you add yourself, directly from your Mac.
  • Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details.

Who we are

Encodia is made by Amit Raj, an independent developer ("we", "us"). We're responsible for the app and this website. You can reach us at [email protected].

Your videos and files

Encodia reads the videos you choose, converts them with its built-in copy of FFmpeg and Apple's VideoToolbox, and writes the results to the output folder you pick. All of this happens on your Mac.

Encodia runs in Apple's App Sandbox. It can only open files and folders you choose (by dragging them in, picking them in an Open dialog, or using Open With in Finder). It can't look through the rest of your Mac.

Your videos, the converted files, and details about them, such as names, durations, sizes and series IDs, are never sent to us.

What Encodia keeps on your Mac

To work the way you've set it up, Encodia stores the following inside its own container on your Mac. None of it leaves your Mac, except for uploads you set up yourself (see the next section).

Encodia also checks how much free space your output disk has, to show it in the sidebar, and reads file dates to sort and describe your videos. Neither is shared.

Uploading to your servers

If you add a destination and choose it for a conversion, Encodia connects from your Mac straight to that server over FTP, FTPS or SFTP, logs in with the details you gave it, and uploads the converted files.

These servers are yours, or belong to a provider you've chosen. We don't operate them, can't see what's sent to them, and aren't responsible for how they handle your files. With plain FTP, your login and files travel unencrypted; use FTPS or SFTP to protect them.

This is the only time Encodia makes a network connection on your behalf, apart from the App Store purchase described below.

Purchases

Encodia Pro is an in-app purchase sold by Apple through the Mac App Store. Apple processes the payment under Apple's Privacy Policy. We receive no payment details and no personal information from it. Encodia asks the App Store only whether Pro has been bought on your Apple Account, so it can unlock it.

Apple shares aggregated, anonymous sales reports with developers, such as the number of purchases per country. These don't identify you.

No analytics, ads or tracking

Encodia contains no analytics, advertising, attribution or tracking code, from us or anyone else. It doesn't create an identifier for you or your Mac, and doesn't combine data with other apps or websites. In the App Store's terms: Data Not Collected.

Crash reports

If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your Mac's settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports and basic usage statistics from Encodia. Apple strips them of anything that identifies you before we see them. We use them only to fix bugs.

You can turn this off at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share with app developers.

Notifications

If you allow it, Encodia shows a notification on your Mac when a conversion finishes. Notifications are created on your Mac and don't go through any server. You can turn them off in Encodia's Preferences or in System Settings → Notifications.

When you contact us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to send, such as a description of a problem, a log or a screenshot. We use it only to reply to you and to fix the problem. We don't add you to a mailing list, and we don't share your email with anyone.

We keep support emails only as long as we need them to help you, and for no more than two years after our last exchange. Ask us at any time to delete yours.

Logs can contain file names and folder paths. Look over a log before sending it, and remove anything you'd rather we didn't see.

This website

encodia.app uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking, and has no forms.

Like every website, it's delivered by servers that see your IP address and browser details when you visit. Our hosting provider may keep these in short-lived logs to run and protect the site. Everything on the site, including the open-source libraries for smooth scrolling and the 3D scene, is served from encodia.app itself, so your browser doesn't contact any other company when you visit. None of this is used to identify or track you.

Your choices and rights

Because Encodia keeps your data on your Mac, you're in control of it:

Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the GDPR, the UK GDPR, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act or US state laws give you rights over your personal data. Since we hold none from the app, those rights mostly concern emails you've sent us, and we'll honour any request about them. We don't sell or share personal data.

Children

Encodia is a general-purpose tool, not directed at children, and it collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If Encodia's handling of data changes, we'll update this policy before the change ships, change the date at the top, and describe the change in the app's release notes. We'll never start collecting data quietly.
